Sketch Class:
Introduction to Sketch Writing

This is an introductory sketch writing course designed for graduates of the Improv Shop, who have little to no experience with comedy writing. In this class, students will learn how to take their own sketches from an idea, to the page, and then to the stage. We will review different kinds of sketches, how to come up with a premise, draft a logline pitch, and write (and re-write) a sketch. This course will utilize in-class writing exercises, improv, and small group workshopping to inspire and support each other in creating and sharing your own original work.

Unlike improv classes and workshops, this class will feature homework (yay!) that students will be expected to complete on a weekly basis. We will be utilizing a shared Google Drive for uploading drafts, receiving notes from the instructor, and table reading sketches. At the end of this 8 week course, students will have an understanding of the sketch writing process, a portfolio of multiple sketches, and feel empowered to create beyond this class.

The class will culminate in a Table Read Showcase performance at the Improv Shop, where each student will have the opportunity to have a sketch of theirs table read by a cast of their classmates in front of an audience.
