The Telerondescene is a unique form created for The Improv Shop’s 2023 Cagematch season and currently performed by the improv team You Already Know in IS’s House Team program. As the name implies, the form is a loose combination of the La Ronde, Monoscene, and the childhood game of Telephone.

It works like this: two improvisers begin by getting a suggestion of anything at all and beginning to improvise a scene. Some amount of time into that scene, another player comes out and tags out one of the two players. After the same amount of time, a fourth improviser comes out and tags out the other player. This continues with as many improvisers as are on the team until the very end, when the original improviser loops back around and closes out the show.

The catch? If you’re not onstage, you aren’t in the room.

The result is an outlandish two-person monoscene performed by any number of improvisers, each thrown into an existing scene that they have absolutely no information about. This arrangement urges each individual performer to focus deeply on their Yes, Anding, justification, and most importantly, LISTENING!

This workshop will focus on the skills it takes to successfully execute this form, the lessons I and others have learned about improv through performing it, and finally, learning the form itself!
